Viña del Mar and Valparaíso

West of Santiago on the coast of Chile are the side by side cities of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, like two different sides of the same coin. Viña del Mar is a modern, sleek, cosmopolitan beach resort city, boasting a famous casino and attractive beaches. Valparaíso is a historical port town and a UNESCO world heritage site, listed for its historical importance, natural beauty and unique architecture which climbs colorfuly up the steep seaside mountains.

  • Visit the Flower Clock, as the name suggest a clock made of flowers.
  • Check out the Viña del Mar Casino, Chile´s first and most active casino.
  • Visit the Fonck Museum of Archeology and Natural History. Housed in a spectacular palace, this museum exhibits an impressive collection of fossils and pre-Columbian artifacts including the only Easter Island Muai on the South American mainland.
  • Valparaíso

  • With its colorful colonial architecture wandering through the steep streets of Valparaíso is a main attraction in itself.
  • Visit La Sebastiana, the old house and now museum of Chile´s most famous poet Pablo Neruda.
  • Take a look inside the Baburizza Palace, an Art Nouveau building, fine arts museum and national monument of Chile.
  • Best time to go

    The best time to visit the Chilean coast is in the summer months between December and February.

    Getting there

    The easiest way to get to Viña del Mar and Valparaíso is by car or bus from Chile´s capital city Santiago, a 1 ½ hour journey.
